The Power of In-Person Visits
Incarcerated individuals consistently report that in-person visits are highly valued. These visits are the cornerstone of Hilltop Chaplain Ministries’ mission. Many serving time in the California State Prison system have never had an in person visit from anyone!
Make Visits
There are 34 state prisons in California spread out all over the state. Many of the incarcerated men we serve are serving life sentences in prisons far away from their families. Our in-person visits are a lifeline for them! We envision several road trips a year to visit all of the men at least once a year.
Provide Assistance
Inmates in the California state prison system now have tablets and access to free phone calls, which enables us to be in regular communication with them. We are able to help them with specific problems they are facing, assist them in engaging with the educational and vocational programs in their respective prison, and provide emotional support.
Supply Resources
We send books, literature, art supplies, newsletters, writing materials and pens and many other resources to the inmates. Many inmates do not have the means to purchase these materials themselves through the prison commissary system.
Chaplain Tom McEnroe
Tom has been a church pastor, seminary professor, small business owner, and most recently the head chaplain at the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, California.
The Santa Clara County Main Jail is a medium to maximum security men’s jail, and most of the inmates there are accused of serious crimes and may face long prison terms. In the six years Tom served there many deep relationships were formed, and Tom carried on these relationships when the men were sentenced and transferred to the State Prison system. After retiring in April 2024, Tom formed Hilltop Chaplain Ministries to support his ongoing ministry to these men in the State Prison System. Tom is married with two adult children and lives in Temecula, California.
